Carl Soderberg doubtful for opener, David Krejci expected to practice

Claude Julien updated the status of Carl Soderberg and David Krejci.

USA TODAY Sports

Boston Bruins forward Carl Soderberg is not expected to be available for the team's season-opening game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night, head coach Claude Julien announced Tuesday.

Soderberg has been dealing with a swollen ankle he sustained in Friday's preseason finale against the Winnipeg Jets. The Bruins are waiting for the swelling to go down before projecting when Soderberg would be available to return to the lineup. Julien stated that the forward was "highly doubtful" for Thursday night.

Jordan Caron could dress in Soderberg's place. Julien also stated that David Krejci is expected to participate in practice on Wednesday after missing time due to back spasms. While his status has yet to be determined officially, it's believed that Krejci will be available for Thursday night.
