Alex Edler suspension: Canucks defenseman to sit three games for Hertl hit
Alexander Edler has been suspended three games for an illegal check to the head of San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl.

Edler is being suspended for hitting San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl on Thursday night. Brendan Shanahan explains that Edler didn't hit Hertl squarely and cut across him to make the head the main point of contact. Shanahan states Edler needs to take a better route and hit Hertl squarely:
Hertl was not injured from the play and was able to play in the remainder of the contest.

Edler is considered a repeat offender under the collective bargaining agreement as he was suspended two games in March of 2013 for charging Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith. He will forfeit $182,926.83, which will be donated to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
