Niklas Kronwall injury: Cody McLeod invited to in-person hearing for hit
Cody McLeod has been invited to an in-person hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

The hearing is in relation to the hit on Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall on Thursday night. The incident occurred at the beginning of the game and involved McLeod hitting Kronwall from behind. Kronwall needed a stretcher to be removed from the ice, sustained a concussion and had cuts behind his ears. The Red Wings announced that he could move all of his extremities.
McLeod was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. The league’s decision to extend an in-person invitation means he can be administered a suspension in excess of five-games. The date of that hearing has yet to be determined.
Earlier this week, San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle was on the receiving end of a hit from behind by St. Louis Blues forward Maxim Lapierre, which earned an in-person hearing with Player Safety on Friday.
