St. Louis Blues forward Maxim Lapierre will have an in-person hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety in New York City on Friday and will be accompanied by manager Doug Armstrong.

Maxim Lapierre will be accompanied by manager Doug Armstrong to New York on Friday.

The hearing has been called because of the hit Lapierre administered to San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle on Tuesday night, which resulted in Boyle being knocked unconscious. Armstrong explained that they will meet with the NHL Players' Association and review the hit before meeting with Player Safety.
In addition, Armstrong stated his opinion of the play, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
“To me, it looked like a hockey play that went awry at the end. We’ll tell our case. We’ll give our point of view. We’re not going to try and deceive anyone. The way we see it is the way we see it and we’ll tell the league officials that, and they’ll make their decision.”
Armstrong also expressed that he was grateful that Boyle was alright. Pierre LeBrun of ESPN exchanged text messages with Boyle after the incident and he stated that he was recovering without complication. However, it’s still far too early to project how much time he will miss or what the longterm effects of the play will be.
San Jose manager Doug Wilson reserved the right to withhold comment when asked about the play on Sportsnet’s Hockey Central at Noon on Wednesday.
Lapierre was suspended four games in 2010 for a hit on Scott Nichol.
