Oilers vs. Kings: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins shaken up after Kyle Clifford hit

Nugent-Hopkins left the ice after a scary collision on Sunday.

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Edmonton Oilers center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had to be helped off the ice on Saturday after a knee-on-knee collision with Los Angeles Kings forward Kyle Clifford.

The incident occured midway through the second period. Nugent-Hopkins had his back turned as he went after the puck in the corner, and as he spun around Clifford came barreling in for a check. Nugent-Hopkins couldn’t get out of the way fast enough, and the two players collided knee-on-knee.

Clifford didn’t receive any penalty for the hit. As bad as the play looked, Nugent-Hopkins returned to the ice a mere 10 minutes later and Oilers fans everywhere breathed a huge sigh of relief.
