The New Jersey Devils will be without two key pieces of their defensive structure, as both captain Bryce Salvador and goaltender Cory Schneider have been placed on injured reserve with lower-body injuries.

The Devils will be without Bryce Salvador and Cory Schenider for at least one game. In the case of Salvador, it could be more than that.

Salvador sustained a non-displaced stress fracture in his foot after blocking a shot against the Columbus Blue Jackets last Tuesday. Manager Lou Lamoriello stated that an initial X-ray came back negative but an MRI this weekend found the fracture, which will keep the captain out an indefinite period of time, via the Bergen Record:
“It’s just going to be time,” Lamoriello said of how long Salvador is out. “It could be a week, could be 10 days. It’s just time.”
Yes, it will take time.
Salvador missed two games last week due to a death in his family. His placement on injured reserve will be retroactive to last week, which would make him eligible to return on Wednesday. He is not expected to do so.
Schneider has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Thursday's game against the Vancouver Canucks. He did not travel with the team to Boston for Saturday's game and will be eligible to return Friday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. Keith Kincaid was recalled to act as Martin Brodeur's backup.
