Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano will miss six-to-eight weeks with a broken ankle, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The Calgary Flames announced that Mark Giordano and Lee Stempniak will miss a considerable amount of time due to injury.

Giordano was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 21, which was the night of the Flames 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. This lead to speculation about the severity of Giordano's injury, which has since proven to be serious. Calgary has exceeded expectations thus far and hope to continue to do so. The injury to Giordano makes that endeavor all the more difficult.
The Flames have gone 1-2-0 since Giordano's injury and will look to improve that mark against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. In addition, the team also announced that Lee Stempniak is considered week-to-week with a broken foot. It remains unclear how the injury was sustained.
Giordano and Stempniak are tied for third on the Flames in points with nine. Giordano has the second most assists on the club (seven), while Stempniak is third in goals (four).
