Tim Leiweke promised a Maple Leafs Cup parade again

MLSE president Tim Leiweke reaffirmed his excitement for a Maple Leafs championship parade.

Tim Leiweke is employed as the head of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment but has made it clear that he’s comfortable being the mouth of the organization, too.

Leiweke was at it again during a lunchtime gathering at The Empire Club of Canada, where he reaffirmed his excitement for a Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup championship parade, via The National Post:

“Could not be more excited about the parade route and we’ll throw you one, I promise.”

Leiweke explained in an interview with Bloomberg News last July that he had already planned a championship parade route for the Maple Leafs. Considering the Maple Leafs haven’t won a championship in sometime -- and had gone almost a decade without a playoff appearance prior to last season -- many questioned his decision to do so.

Fortunately, Leiweke has plenty of time to consider endeavors beyond the scope of MLSE. The president also proclaimed his vision for NHL expansion, stating that Kansas City, Las Vegas, Seattle and Quebec City all took priority in deciding where the next homes of hockey would be. Of course, Markham and its prospective GTA Centre was left off the list, but Leiweke still had some love for a city north of the border as he vouched for Quebec City as the next in line to get a shot at having a team.

Not surprisingly, many have questioned Leiweke’s exuberance in proclaiming future success for his organizations. Having confidence is certainly a beneficial component to any undertaking but public displays of such can lead to ruffled feathers and plenty of social media jokes.

Those are certainly in abundance today.
