Things aren't going according to plan for the Washington Capitals in the early goings of this season and a two-game losing streak isn't helping matters much. But captain Alex Ovechkin is producing and claims ownership to the second most goals in the league entering competition on Wednesday night. As long as he stays on track, the Capitals have a solid base to build around.

The Washington Capitals have announced that Alex Ovechkin is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Well, about that.
Washington's public relations department announced via Twitter on Wednesday morning that Ovechkin has sustained an upper-body injury and is listed as day-to-day. How, when or where the injury occurred remains to be seen. What is known, though, is that Washington has three days off before they travel to Philadelphia to take on the struggling Flyers on Friday night.
Is that enough days for the Capitals captain to return? We’ll have to wait to see.
The contest will mark Washington’s fourth game against a Metropolitan Division rival. Through the first three contests the team has accumulated a 1-2-0 record. Given their ability to play against weak competition in the South East Division over the last several years, many questioned how the Capitals would fare in a division with stiffer competition.
Well, one of the two losses came against the Carolina Hurricanes, a mutual alumni of the former-South East. More importantly, the Metropolitan Division has proven to be on par with the South East and might be the weakest division in hockey. So much for new found challenges.
