The Philadelphia Flyers have fired head coach Peter Laviolette, according to Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News. Seravalli cites a team source who states that Laviolette has been replaced by assistant coach Craig Berube.

Peter Laviolette has been fired as head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.

The team’s public relations department has announced a press conference for 11 a.m. Monday morning with president Peter Luukko and owner Ed Snider.
Philadelphia recorded a disappointing performance in 2013, leading many to believe that Laviolette was on the hot-seat. Having acquired Vincent Lecavalier and Mark Streit this offseason, expectations were that the Flyers would once again establish themselves as a competitive team. Following an 0-3-0 start to the season that saw the team record a combined total of only three goals, speculation rose that time was running out for Laviolette.
Originally hired 25 games into the 2009-10 season, Laviolette led the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Final in his first season as coach. He then registered consecutive 47-win seasons that both ended in Eastern Conference semifinal appearances.
