The New York Islanders have returned defenseman Griffin Reinhart to the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League, the team announced on Wednesday morning.

The Islanders have sent Griffin Reinhart back to junior after being a healthy scratch in three games.

Reinhart was a healthy scratch in three regular season games this season and expressed that he was frustrated by the lack of playing time. In addition, he stated that he felt as though there wasn’t much left for him to learn at the junior level, via the New York Post:
“It’s a little frustrating not playing, but I’ve been in junior several years now, and I don’t think there’s too much more for me to be learned down there. So I think just practicing here - even if I was just practicing here all year, and playing a few games - I’d learn more from these guys than going back to junior.”
Clearly, the Islanders management disagree and believe it will be more beneficial for the No. 4 overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft to continue his development at the junior level.
