Carter Ashton suspended 2 games for boarding Derek Smith
The NHL Department of Player Safety suspended Carter Ashton two games for boarding Derek Smith.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Carter Ashton has been suspended two games for boarding Calgary Flames defenseman Derek Smith, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Friday afternoon. The incident occurred during the second period of Wednesday night's game when Ashton hit Smith from behind.
Brendan Shanahan stated in the discipline video that Ashton failed to minimize force and hit Smith squarely in the numbers. The department determined that Ashton would be suspended two games for the hit considering he has no discipline history and Smith was not injured on the play.
Ashton will forfeit $8,615.38 under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. The money will be donated to the Players’ Emergency Fund.
