Adam McQuaid injury: Bruins defenseman doubtful Monday with leg injury

McQuaid suffered the injury Saturday against the Leafs.

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Bruins will have to face the Tampa Bay Lightning without one of their most physical players, as coach Claude Julien confirmed Sunday that defenseman Adam McQuaid was doubtful for Monday's contest.

McQuaid suffered a right leg injury on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs during the second shift of the second period. He came up limping after dishing out a hit, hobbled to the bench and didn't return. Just a few minutes earlier, McQuaid fought in a lively bout with Leafs forward Frazer McLaren. It's not clear whether McQuaid was injured during the fight or the hit.

Defenseman Matt Bartkowski will most likely replace McQuaid in the lineup. The 25-year-old has an assist and is minus-one through just four games this season and won’t be able to replace the physicality that McQuaid provides every night. McQuaid has just three points but 33 penalty minutes in 15 games this season.
