Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos appears to have sustained a serious injury to his right leg against the Boston Bruins on Monday afternoon.

Steven Stamkos sustained a leg injury against the Boston Bruins on Monday. It appears to be serious.

Stamkos was back checking in the second period when he lost his footing and collided with the Tampa Bay net, which resulted in his leg bending back in a violent manner. After attempting to get off the ice under his own power, Stamkos collapsed to the ice and required the aide of a stretcher to leave the surface. He was visibly in a great deal of pain.
The injury just happened, so the Lightning have yet to release any information. Based upon the optics, it seems as though Stamkos could miss a considerable amount of time.
He entered the game tied for the league lead in goals with 14 and points with 23. The Lightning came into the game with the most points in the Eastern Conference. Boston has since scored two goals since the injury and lead, 2-0 with 2:30 remaining in the second period.
