The New York Islanders have placed goaltender Evgeni Nabokov on injured reserve, the team announced on Monday morning. Nabokov sustained a groin injury in the team's 5-4 shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night, which is the official start date of his injured reserve stay.

The goalie was appearing in his first start in three games and lasted little more than four minutes as the injury occurred on the Red Wings first shot of the game, a goal by forward Darren Helm. Arthur Staple of Newsday is reporting that Nabokov could miss a month with the issue but the team has yet to establish a timetable.
Kevin Poulin will assume the position of No. 1 goaltender and will be supported by Anders Nilsson, who was recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League on Monday. Nilsson has appeared in four NHL games over the course of his career, which includes a .911 save percentage with a 2.75 goals against average.
