Time on ice has been an established concern of Erat’s, as his has averaged five less minutes per game since joining the Capitals last season compared to his time with Nashville.
Erat has two years remaining on his contract, which carries an annual average value of $4.5 million against the salary cap. He was acquired for 19-year-old prospect Filip Forsberg, who Washington selected with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.
