Joffrey Lupul out with groin strain

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward is expected to miss Wednesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a groin strain.

When Joffrey Lupul is in the lineup, he is an effective player for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The problem, of course, is that his presence has been limited due to injuries. Apparently that will be the case once again, as head coach Randy Carlyle announced on Tuesday afternoon that Lupul will be unavailable for Wednesday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a Grade 2 groin strain.

What it means beyond that remains to be seen:

Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was recently diagnosed with a Grade 2 groin strain and will miss 4-6 weeks while recovering from the injury. Considering you're reading this, you understand that I didn't go to medical school, so my amateur analysis of this situation is nothing to live by. However, I have read quite a bit about hockey over the years and understand that groin issues can cause serious issues for players when attempting to skate.

Ultimately, Lupul’s MRI will reveal how long this issue will keep him out.

The 30-year-old forward began the first year of a five-year, $26.5 million contract this season, according to CapGeek.com. Lupul has registered 15 points in 22 games this season (eight goals and seven assists).
