Ryan Callahan will return against Ducks

New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan will make his first appearance since breaking his thumb.

Home is where the heart is, but it also might be where the good energy is for the New York Rangers. After a grueling nine-game road stand to start the season, things are starting to settle for the struggling Rangers.

Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is back to full health, as is Carl Hagelin and the team carries a three-game winning streak into Monday night's contest against the Anaheim Ducks. That's not all they'll be bringing to the affair as captain Ryan Callahan has been medically cleared to play after missing seven games with a broken thumb.

He is expected to be in the lineup on Monday night.

Alain Vigneault has not yet decided who will be scratched in place of Callahan, but indicated he is leaning towards forward J.T. Miller, who struggled against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.

This will mark the final meeting between the Ducks and Rangers during the regular season. In their first meeting back on Oct. 10, the Anaheim routed New York, 6-0. Apparently, the Rangers have not forgotten about that contest as Vigneault referenced Anaheim’s decision to ice their top power play unit late in the game when leading by six goals.

Whether any type of retribution will be sought remains to be seen.
