Corey Crawford out 2-3 weeks with lower-body injury

Corey Crawford will miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury.

The Chicago Blackhawks recently weathered a three-game losing streak but haven't gotten into the clear yet, as the team will be without goaltender Corey Crawford for the near future. Crawford is projected to miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury, according to coach Joel Quenneville.

Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times cites a source who says the injury is a groin issue that could keep Crawford out for the remainder of December. Beyond Crawford’s responsibility to the Blackhawks, this could end his candidacy as a potential member of Team Canada for the 2014 Sochi Olympics, as some viewed him as having an outside chance of going to the games. This injury makes that far less likely.

With Crawford out, the Blackhawks will rely on a tandem of Antti Raanta and Kent Simpson, both of whom have spent the majority of this year in the American Hockey League. Raanta was signed as an international free agent by Chicago in June and was reportedly coveted by several teams. Raanta is 3-0-1 in five games this season and has compiled a .922 save percentage and 2.16 goals against average.
