Almost! Congrats Pittsburgh, you almost did it. On their third try at a special jersey for an outdoor game, the Penguins have come the closest yet to using the right jersey. As much they didn't use the right one, this is a solid jersey choice.
Pittsburgh Penguins unveil Stadium Series jerseys
In their third outdoor game since the NHL started these events, the Pittsburgh Penguins have released yet another alternate jersey.

It’s not quite a retro jersey, though they do use the retro design, as they incorporated their new, modern colors into the old design. Let’s take a closer look at the jersey with pictures posted by the Penguins’ official site.
Personally I like the detailing on the pants, but the bottom striping arching up along the hem of the jersey is weird. The boxed edges on the shoulders are also a little weird. The metallic look seems to be consistent with other Stadium Series jerseys, which is likely a concerted effort by the NHL to differentiate the Stadium Series from the Winter Classic.
The NHL is doing that to tell you that this is definitely not the exact same thing only with less hype and worse jerseys, though it kind of sends you that exact message, no?
The Penguins choosing Chris Kunitz to model the jerseys instead of say, face of the NHL Sidney Crosby, is also a little odd. This whole Stadium Series thing feels a little cheap.
The previous releases for the Ducks and Kings were met with derision, while the Islanders' reveal was met with "could have been worse." The only team to get a passing grade so far was the Devils, who are using a retro jersey that they've been using as an alternate already for a while. Now we just have to wait for the Blackhawks and Rangers to reveal their jerseys.
One thing that can be said about the Stadium Series jerseys, though, is that there are no fake laces or bathmat stickers on the shoulders.
