Henrik Zetterberg injury update: Forward declares himself ready to play

Sidelined since Dec. 1 with a back injury, Henrik Zetterberg said he’s ready to return to the Red Wings’ lineup.

It's been easy to follow the recovery of the Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg thanks to HBO's 24/7. Out since Dec. 1 with a herniated disk in his back, Zetterberg has been skating for a few weeks, slowly recovering from the setback. But on Friday, Zetterberg announced that he's ready to play when the team travels to Florida Saturday to take on the Panthers.

While there's been no official announcement from head coach Mike Babcock or the Red Wings brass regarding Zetterberg's status, a return now could mean Zetterberg not only plays Saturday, but comes back in time for the Winter Classic between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs Jan. 1. Detroit has gone 3-6-2 since Zetterberg went down with the injury.
