World Junior Championship: Czech forward Michal Plutnar knocks down referee

That was unwise.

Bruce Bennett

The Czechs were enjoying a nice 2-1 lead over the Canadiens in the World Junior Championship on Saturday before Michal Plutnar had to go and ruin all the fun.

As time wound down in the second period, Canadian forward Connor McDavid shot the puck into the Czech net after the horn sounded. That’s obviously a hockey no-no, and Plutnar took exception to the dishonor.

The referee tried to intervene and Plutnar shoved him out of the way.

Surprisingly, Plutnar only got two minutes for roughing and not a game misconduct. Either way, the Czechs will go on the penalty kill when the third period begins.
