Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows has had a rough go of things this season and they might have gotten worse. Burrows sustained a broken jaw and will miss four weeks, according to head coach John Tortorella on Tuesday afternoon.

Alex Burrows sustained a broken jaw and will miss at least four weeks.

The initial report surfaced from Bob Marjanovich of Team1040 radio on Monday night, with TSN’s Bob Mckenzie confirming the report via twitter:

— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) December 3, 2013 The incident occurred in the second period of Sunday afternoon's game against the Carolina Hurricanes when Burrows was struck in the face with a clearing attempt from a teammate. Burrows immediately displayed signs of agony and rushed to the locker room.
Interestingly enough, Burrows returned to the game and was able to participate in media availability and provided comment on the play:
Despite Burrows’ belief at the time that the injury wasn’t severe, it ultimately required surgery and will keep him off the ice for at least a month. This marks the second instance of extended absence by the forward, as he missed approximately three weeks after fracturing his foot while blocking a shot at the beginning of the season.
