It has been a fantastic year for rookies in the NHL. But while top-ten picks like Nathan MacKinnon and Seth Jones have thrived playing with the pros, the Tampa Bay Lightning's third overall pick Jonathan Drouin has remained in the Central Hockey League with the Halifax Mooseheads to improve his game. Now it appears he'll be shelved for a while with a possible concussion after a dangerous hit from a fellow Lightning prospect on Friday.

Drouin took a nasty hit from a fellow Lightning prospect on Friday.

Drouin was hurt 12 minutes into the first period when Quebec Remparts forward Adam Erne violently slammed Drouin head-first into the glass from behind. Drouin crumpled to the ice but managed to get up and skate slowly to the locker room where he was evaluated for a concussion.

Erne, Tampa Bay's second round pick this summer, was immediately thrown out of the game. He was suspended for three preseason games for an illegal check during a game against the St. Louis Blues.
Halifax general manager Cam Russell said that Drouin has a possible concussion, but the team would know more about the extent of the injury later on Saturday.
Since failing to make Tampa Bay’s roster in the preseason, Drouin has been lighting up the QMJHL. Drouin has 17 goals and 50 points in just 23 games this season.
