Vincent Lecavalier injury update: Flyers forward leaves team for medical evaluation

Lecavalier has been suffering from back spasms.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

As if the Flyers' 5-1 loss in Dallas on Saturday wasn't painful enough, general manager Paul Holmgren announced Sunday that injured center Vincent Lecavalier will leave the team to return to Philadelphia for further evaluation.

Lecavalier has missed the last three games with back spasms, the latest injury in what has been a painful year for the veteran forward. He skated yesterday in Dallas and felt uncomfortable enough to fly back to Philadelphia to undergo testing. Holmgren said it’s not clear whether Lecavalier will rejoin the Flyers’ road trip in Chicago on Monday.

It’s a big blow for the Flyers, who have been struggling offensively with Lecavalier out of the lineup. He’s tied for the team lead with goals, is third with 22 points and has been Philadelphia’s main point producer on the power play.

Meanwhile, Kimmo Timonen is listed as day-to-day after missing the third period on Saturday in Dallas.
