Sunday apparently couldn't end without another Boston Bruins defenseman getting injured. Rookie Kevan Miller was knocked out of the game late in the third period by a dangerous hit from Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf.
Dion Phaneuf injures Kevan Miller with uncalled boarding penalty
Could Phaneuf face league discipline?
The hit came as Miller was retrieving a puck along the corner boards in the Bruins’ own end. As he turned to move the puck back up the ice, Phaneuf came barreling in and collided with him.
Miller immediately skated off to the locker room. Meanwhile, Phaneuf was not assessed a penalty on what (if you'll excuse some editorializing here) probably should have been a boarding penalty. Instead, Patrice Bergeron was called for hooking somewhere else on the ice and the Leafs ended up with a power play.
Whether Phaneuf will receive any league punishment remains to be seen. In the meantime, it’s another blow to what is now a seriously depleted Bruins roster.
