Puck the Media Radio, Episode 5: Gladiators and Starbucks

Welcome, once again, to Puck the Media Radio. The shows will be a little less frequent during the season and more spur of the moment than they were during the lockout, but hopefully we’ll at least churn out another four to match the ones we did in the fall.

As always, the show is recorded at the radio studios of Caldwell College, who provides a commercial message in the middle of the show. Special thanks to Nick Amabile for his technical wizardly.

Here’s what you can expect on the 35-minute show:

At 2:28, former NHL enforcer (and Stanley Cup winner, it must be noted) Chris Nilan becomes the first man to set foot on NHL ice and also appear on this show. He talks about the documentary he participated in, the Alex Gibney-directed The Last Gladiators, which will be available on VOD everywhere this Friday, Feb. 8. It is currently in theaters in New York City, and will be in theaters in cities such as Minneapolis and Pittsburgh later this month. He discussed how the movie has sat with him a couple years after filming, the state of the modern enforcer, and how he’s using a new lease on life to do good in the community.

At 18:57, Brian Stubits of CBSSports.com joins me. Brian is a native of Tacoma, Washington, so naturally we discuss the potential for the NHL in Seattle, what other NHL markets might Seattle be able to mirror in terms of success, and whether or not it matters if the market has four other major teams.
