Stars vs. Ducks Second Period Recap: Strong effort has Ducks within one

Nick Bonino’s goal cut the lead to 2-1.

After a rough and tumble first, the Stars and Ducks settled down and actually played hockey in the second period. And as the Dallas broadcasters put it, it's no surprised that the Ducks have outscored opponents 11-4 in the second frame this season.

Anaheim severely outskated and outworked the Stars for the majority of twenty minutes, leaving the Dallas backcheckers completely gassed at times in their own zone. The Stars were able to hold their own through two penalty kills (Aaron Rome went off for boarding and Antoine Roussel got called for unsportsmanlike conduct) but the Ducks finally broke through with a Nick Bonino deflection from a Lucas Sbisa shot from the point at 15:23. It was a well-deserved goal for the Ducks after fifteen minutes of absolutely dominating the puck possession battle.

We would be remiss, however, if we neglected to mention Kari Lehtonen's superb goaltending. The game would be tied if not for this stop on a 3-on-1 opportunity for the Ducks:

Judging from the momentum in this game the Stars will need more of that to hang on.
