A busy NHL schedule on Saturday just got a little bit lighter. With snow crippling Boston, officials have decided to postpone the evening’s Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning game at TD Garden. The NHL made the announcement around 3 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon, citing the “weather-related State of Emergency” still in effect in Boston.
Bruins vs. Lightning game postponed due to Boston winter storm
Saturday’s Bruins vs. Lightning game has been postponed due to the massive winter storm that’s crippled the Boston area.
“Although both Clubs and the assigned on-ice officials are in Boston,” the NHL’s statement read, “travel conditions remain too hazardous for fans, security personnel and TD Garden staff to get to the arena.”
A make-up date has not been announced.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but was pushed to 7 p.m. as the winter storm rolled in on Friday. A travel ban is still in effect for the City of Boston and public transit systems are closed through Monday. Getting to the game would have been extremely difficult and it’s likely that only a few thousand people -- if that -- would have braved the elements to get to the arena.
