The Toronto Maple Leafs continued discussions with the Calgary Flames about the availability of goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff, according to Darren Dreger of TSN on Monday morning.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames continued discussions about goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.

Dreger reports that the two sides are no closer to a deal but are expected to continue negotiations over the next three days until Wednesday’s trade deadline.
Toronto general manager Dave Nonis stated earlier this season that he would be interested in acquiring a veteran goaltender. Kiprusoff would meet those standards. With one-year remaining on his contract at the conclusion of the season, the 36-year-old goaltender would not require the Maple Leafs to make a long-term commitment.
However, reports have surfaced that Kiprusoff would opt not to play if he was traded, regardless of destination. Many are citing family reasons, as Kiprusoff and his wife recently had a baby. In addition, his former coach Mike Keenan stated that Kiprisoff signed his current contract with the intention of not playing in the final year of the deal.
Dreger reported last week that Kiprusoff’s agent informed Flames general manager Jay Feaster to consult with the goaltender prior to trading him. On Monday, Dreger stated Kiprusoff is open to a multitude of possibilities including a trade and/or an extension.
In addition to Kiprusoff, it has been reported that Nonis also spoke to Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis about goaltender Roberto Luongo. Gillis is believed to have initiated the discussions and the asking price for Luongo has reportedly gone down from what was originally required.
