The Washington Capitals haven’t quite gotten what they hoped for when they acquired Martin Erat from the Nashville Predators over a week ago, partially because he has only played two games.
Martin Erat injury: forward will play against Tampa Bay tonight
That will change tonight, as Erat is in the lineup for the Capitals, who host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Verizon Center. Erat had been sidelined a few games after taking a hit from behind by Erik Gudbranson a week ago Saturday. The Capitals hope to have the winger returning to play prime minutes and notch some key points as the Capitals edge closer and closer to a playoff spot and a Southeast Division title, which would earn them the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Erat was traded to the Capitals with a minor prospect on trade deadline day in exchange for prospect Filip Forsberg. The Czech forward has struggled this season, putting up just four goals in 38 games, despite notching 17 assists. Erat has 163 goals in 725 career games with Nashville and Washington.
