Ducks vs. Red Wings Game 1 update: Tied after two, Jimmy Howard avoids a scare

No change in the score during the second period, but at least Jimmy Howard is still alive.

Harry How

The Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks entered the second period of Game 1 tied at 1-1, and that's how things remained as the game reached the second intermission.

The most notable moment came when Corey Perry nearly sliced Jimmy Howard as he flew through the goalie's crease and his skate came up and dangerously brushed Howard:

Thank goodness for facemasks. That had shades of Clint Malarchuk. (Not that a facemask helped Malarchuk.) Perry was penalized for goalie interference.

The teams traded two power plays apiece, but neither was able to convert on their chances. The Ducks, however, still have 1:19 remaining on their power play, and they’ll have fresh ice to work with when the third period begins.
