The NHL announced the three finalists for the Hart Memorial Trophy on Friday morning, which is annually awarded to the player judged to be most valuable to his team. The voting is conducted by the membership of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.
Hart Trophy 2013: Alex Ovechkin, John Tavares, Sidney Crosby named finalists
The three finalists for the Hart Memorial Trophy were announced by the NHL on Friday morning.

Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, John Tavares of the New York Islanders and Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins finished with the three-highest vote totals.
Ovechkin recorded 32 goals in 2013, which earned him the Rocket Richard Trophy for leading the league in goals. In addition, he contributed 24 assists for a total of 56 points. He was also nominated for the Ted Lindsay Award, which is awarded by a vote of the NHL Players’ Association to the most outstanding player. Ovechkin has already won the Hart twice in his career.
Crosby has also previously won a Hart and is nominated for the Lindsay award. Despite missing all of April due to a fractured jaw, he finished four points off the league lead. In 36 games played, the Penguins captain recorded 15 goals and 41 assists for a total of 56 points. His assist total was second best in the league.
This is the first time Tavares has been nominated for the Hart. He finished the year with 28 goals and 19 assists for 47 points. He scored the third-most goals in the league.
The winner of the Hart will be awarded sometime during the Stanley Cup finals.
