Maple Leafs vs. Bruins Game 7 Update: Franson comes alive

Cody Franson picked an excellent time for his first career two-goal game.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Cody Franson evidently decided that scoring the first goal for the Leafs wasn't quite enough to make up for his early giveaway gaffe, and scored again with this slapshot to put Toronto up 2-1 over the Boston Bruins early in the second period:

Physical play and penalties continued to be major factors in the game. On this sequence, Dion Phaneuf drew Milan Lucic into a roughing penalty:

The Boston fans weren’t happy that there was no call on Phaneuf, but some of their anger should be directed at Lucic for allowing himself to be goaded into such an unnecessary penalty during a Game 7.

As the physical intensity of the game picked up, nobody was off-limits. Joffrey Lupul fell on to Tuukka Rask, and Rask gave him a shot with his blocker in retaliation.

The Bruins were back on their heels for much of the second, and trailed the Leafs in shots after two periods 13-20.

The Maple Leafs have a 2-1 lead over the Bruins at the end of forty minutes of hockey.
