Rangers vs. Capitals Game 7 update: Arron Asham is the series MVP

Asham scored his second goal of the playoffs to give New York a 1-0 lead.

Consider this: In a series featuring the likes of Alex Ovechkin, Rick Nash and Brad Richards, no one has more goals than Arron Asham.

No, really. Asham's second goal of the playoffs gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the first period. Chris Kreider was tabbed as Ryane Clowe's replacement in Game 7, and he made his impact felt rather quickly. Kreider sped into the offensive zone and dropped the puck for Asham. Asham then improbably scored a nifty goal.

Alex Ovechkin has also made his presence known. Ovie has already dished out seven hits, including this huge one on John Moore.

He also bloodied Ryan McDonagh with a giant hit along the boards. McDonagh has been targeted by the Capitals early on. Clearly the hope is to wear out the Rangers defensemen to somehow gain an advantage on Henrik Lundqvist.

The Rangers will begin the second period shorthanded for about a minute and change.
