Rangers vs. Capitals Game 7 update: Plenty of hitting, not much defending for Washington

The Rangers struck twice in the second period to put the Caps up against the wall.

From just watching this game, it’s hard to say that either the Capitals or Rangers are dominating the other team. And yet Washington faces a daunting task in the third period, down 3-0 to New York.

The Rangers struck quickly in the second, catching the Capitals defense tracking the puck the other way before Taylor Pyatt potted a rebound past a sliding Braden Holtby.

Less than two minutes later, Lady Luck bid Holtby adieu. Michael del Zotto’s shot deflected off of a Capitals player’s skate and right through Holtby’s five-hole.

Whoops. Now the Capitals have to find a way to beat the ninja in the Rangers net. Henrik Lundqvist has stopped 26 shots already and looks like he has all series long: like the guy that won the Vezina Trophy last year. Washington needs four goals on him to save their season.
