Pending-unrestricted free-agent Mike Ribeiro is interested in signing a long-term contract with the Washington Capitals, even if it means he makes less money by doing so.
Mike Ribeiro willing to take less money for longer term contract
Ribeiro reiterated on Wednesday afternoon that he is looking for a long-term deal and that he is open to taking less money to get it.

Ribeiro has previously stated that he is seeking a long-term contract in order to keep his family in one place while his children finish high school. He has expressed a desire for a five-year deal, but has defined a long-term deal as anything beyond three years. This insinuates a four-year deal is the minimum length he is willing to accept.
On Wednesday, Ribeiro again said he would be willing to take less money in order to receive a long-term contract. If the Capitals are willing to give him that kind of deal, he would like to stay with the team, via Puck Daddy:
“If I can stay in the city and retire here. It’s more about the kids. If I could stay in the city until they go to college.”
Ribeiro is considered one of the top unrestricted free-agent forwards to hit the market this summer. It is anticipated that several teams will have an interest in him.
He is coming off a five-year, $25 million contract that carried an annual average value of $5 million against the salary cap.
