The Kings lead 1-0 at the end of the first period thanks to an early goal.

The San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings opened Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals with altered lineups, due to an incident in Game 1 that resulted in an injury for Jarret Stoll and a suspension for Raffi Torres.

Jeff Carter would begin the scoring with an unassisted goal just 3:06 into the game, on the first shot for the Kings:

The Sharks would have two power-play opportunities in the period, but would come up empty on both of them. Continuing from his Game 1 shutout, Jonathan Quick has now held the Sharks scoreless for four consecutive periods of playoff hockey. San Jose led the period in shots, 11-4, but trailed 1-0 at the end of the first.
