The New York Rangers and Boston Bruins are both scoreless after the first period in Game 3 thanks to the heroic efforts of Henrik Lundqvist.
Rangers vs. Bruins Game 3 update: Lundqvist bailing out New York
Henrik Lundqvist is the reason the Rangers aren’t trailing after one period.
New York outshot Boston 11-9, but don't let that fool you. The Bruins had the far better collection of scoring chances in the first frame, including two breakaway opportunities that Lundqvist turned away. Chris Kelly had the first off an outlet pass from Zdeno Chara.
And Tyler Seguin had an even better one later in the period. Jaromir Jagr very nearly scored as the play continued to develop.
The Rangers had an early power play but didn't get anything out of it. They've only scored twice in their last 37 power plays. They're going to have to figure out how to get it done offensively pretty quickly, starting with the likes of Rick Nash and Brad Richards. As long as Lundqvist continues his stellar play, they have a chance.
