The Brent Burns forward experiment continued to produce good results for the San Jose Sharks in Game 4. They led the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Burns, who has spent most of his NHL career as a defenseman.

Brent Burns is liking this forward thing.
His conversion back to forward this season by coach Todd McLellan produced nine goals and 20 points in 30 regular season games. Tonight Burns scored his second goal of the playoffs.
Needing a win to tie the series, the Sharks came out firing, outshooting the Kings 15-3 in the period. NBC Sports announcer Joe Micheletti called it the most dominant period he has ever seen Joe Thornton play. Thonrton won six of his seven faceoffs and assisted on the Burns goal.
However, the Sharks only had a one-goal lead to show for their efforts. They came up short on two power play opportunities, a failure that could come back to haunt them.
Tommy Wingels came inches from making it 2-0 when he hit the crossbar on the power play with under three minutes left.
Logan Couture, a rumored injury concern before the game, took a regular shift in the period.
