The second period began with the Penguins trailing the Senators, 2-1, but Pittsburgh came roaring back early in the middle frame. They scored twice in the opening two minutes to take a 3-2 lead. Chris Kunitz had the first goal at 1:08:

Both goals were assisted by Kris Letang, who has been struggling recently for the Penguins. If he's able to regain the form that won him so much praise in the regular season, that could be bad news for the Senators.

The Penguins defended their lead throughout the remainder of the second period. Despite a late power play for the Senators, they couldn’t score the equalizer before the second intermission.

Pittsburgh had the lead in shots, 29-22, after 40 minutes of play.
