Bruins vs. Rangers Game 4 recap: New York wins in OT to stay alive

The Rangers won 4-3 in overtime to avoid elimination against the Boston Bruins.

There will be no second-round sweeps in the 2013 NHL Playoffs. The Rangers battled back from a 2-0 deficit early in the second period to win 4-3 in overtime and force a Game 5.

The Boston Bruins came into the third period of Game 4 against the New York Rangers with a 2-1 lead after two power-play goals in the second, but that lead didn't last long. Just 1:15 into the third period, Derek Stepan scored to tie the game at two after an ugly giveaway from Zdeno Chara:

The Rangers would have some of their best pressure of the game over the next few minutes following this goal, but Tyler Seguin would get the next goal to retake the lead for the Bruins:

The Rangers continued to show life in the game's final period, though, and Brian Boyle scored the next goal on the power play, tying the game once more:

That was the first power-play goal for the Rangers in their past seven games.

The game would head to overtime tied 3-3, and Chris Kreider would win it with this deflection of a Rick Nash shot seven minutes into the extra period:

Lundqvist only allowed three goals on 40 shots and had a nice game for the Rangers, but the story of the night was more about Rask's struggles.

Can the Rangers’ depleted defense come up big the same way Boston’s did?

Roman Hamrlik had an assist, but he also took a costly penalty. Michael Del Zotto made several mistakes to give the Bruins their first two goals. This victory for the Rangers came in spite of their defense, not because of it.

Could Brad Richards come up big in what may be his last game as a Ranger?

Uh, nope. I guess we didn’t update these questions after Richards was announced a healthy scratch for Game 4. The Rangers are 1-0 without Brad Richards in the playoffs.
