Sharks vs. Kings Game 5 update: Los Angeles throws their bodies around in 1st

The Kings got physical in the first period, but neither team was able to score.

The San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings entered Game 5 with their series tied, 2-2. The Sharks were hoping to be the first team in the series to win a game on the road, while the Kings were looking to keep their perfect playoff home record intact. The Kings came out strong in the opening 20 minutes, but the period ended scoreless.

The best scoring chance for either team in the period came after an ill-advised pass attempt by Scott Gomez was picked off by Anze Kopitar. Unfortunately for the Kings, Kopitar couldn't make the scoring chance count:

The Sharks had the only power play in the period, after Jeff Carter took a penalty for boarding Dan Boyle, but San Jose was unable to convert.

The Kings led in hits, 23-12, in the period, and led in shots, 9-6.
