Sharks vs. Kings Game 5 update: Kopitar gives Los Angeles the 1-0 lead

The Kings kept the pressure on in the 2nd period and finally beat Antti Niemi.

After leading in shots and hits in the first period, the Los Angeles Kings continued to dictate the play early in the second, recording several good scoring chances as the San Jose Sharks fell back on their heels. The Sharks didn't get their first shot of the second period 6:13 into the middle frame, and the Kings were outhitting the Sharks 39-18 through 40 minutes.

The Sharks got a little TOO physical late in the second, as Jason Demers took an unnecessary boarding penalty on this play:

Antti Niemi was the standout star of the period, robbing Jeff Carter (and fooling the guy in charge of the goal spotlight):

But the Kings continued to put on the pressure, and were eventually able to sneak one by Niemi late in the period:

The shots were 18-11 in favor of the Kings at the second intermission.
