Detroit Red Wings rookie defenseman Danny DeKeyser will miss the remainder of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs due to a broken right thumb, according to head coach Mike Babcock on Thursday night.

Babcock announced the injury following Detroit's 5-4 overtime victory against the Anaheim Ducks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal. The series is now tied at one game apiece.
DeKeyser sustained the injury around the mid-way point of the third period. He only registered 3:26 of ice time in the stanza and did not take a shift after the eight-minute mark. The Red Wings have three healthy defenseman available to replace DeKeyser with Carlo Colaiacovo, Ian White and Brian Lashoff. It remains unclear who Babcock will choose to start Game 3.
DeKeyser was signed as a college free agent at the end of March after reportedly being courted by every team in the NHL.
In 11 games played during the regular season, the 22-year-old averaged 18:02 of ice time, which included an average of 1:50 on the penalty kill. Babcock credited the addition of DeKeyser as a factor in the Red Wings making a successful push into the playoffs.
