Fans and media expected bad blood with the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators meeting for Game 2 just one night after Lars Eller was knocked out of the series with a brutal hit by Ottawa defenseman Eric Gryba.
Canadiens vs. Senators Game 2: Scoreless but bitter after one period
There was lots of hard hitting and jawing but no fighting in the first game after the Senators knocked out Lars Eller.
A war of words between players and coaches commenced through the media, and players jawed during the pre-game warmups.
So, bad blood? Yes. But goals? No.
It's still scoreless after the first period, but the Canadiens probably got some of the vengeance for their fallen comrade out of their system. Rene Bourque laid a thundering hit on Kyle Turris, and Montreal registered 18 hits and committed three penalties. The Senators logged only 7 hits and one penalty.
Now that they got that out of the way, maybe they’ll see about scoring goals in the second.
