The Los Angeles Kings have come to terms on an extension with defenseman Robyn Regehr, the team announced Thursday afternoon. General manager Dean Lombardi confirmed the extension was for two years and would conclude following the 2014-15 season.

Regehr was playing in the final year of a five-year, $20.1 million contract, which carried an annual average value of $4 million against the salary cap. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. While the Kings did not provide specific salary details, multiple reports have indicated that Regehr will earn $6 million over the course of the deal, which equates to a salary cap hit of $3 million per season.
The 33-year-old defenseman was acquired at the trade deadline from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2014 and 2015 NHL Draft. Given the absence of both Matt Greene and Willie Mitchell, Regehr was able to add depth to the team's defense corps. With Mitchell potentially out for all of next season, Regehr's signing fills a potential void in 2014-15, as well.
The only other pending unrestricted free agent on the Kings blue-line is Rob Scuderi. However, burgeoning standout Slava Voynov is playing in the final year of his entry-level contract and will be a restricted free agent in July. Jake Muzzin will also be a restricted free agent this summer.
