The Edmonton Oilers have expressed an interest in altering the makeup of their club. Upon his appointment as general manager, Craig MacTavish made it clear that he will make some difficult decisions in order to properly take advantage of the future potential of the club.
NHL Draft 2013: Oilers ‘not opposed’ to moving No. 7 pick
The Edmonton Oilers are open to trading the No. 7 overall selection in June’s draft.

One such course of action could be leveraging the No. 7 overall selection in the 2013 NHL Draft.
President Kevin Lowe told Adam Kimmelman of NHL.com that the organization is open to all possibilities and that moving the pick is a feasible concept given the depth of this year’s draft:
“Because the Draft is deep, as you move along, if someone offered us something we felt could fit in with our group, a different age and a certain type of positional player we need, we wouldn’t be opposed to moving the pick. Maybe where teams are positioned with the [salary] cap going down, all those sorts of moons aligning could lead to something.”
Lowe stated that the organization’s philosophy is to listen to all offers. The final decision will be MacTavish’s to make. In terms of their approach to the draft, the Oilers will be selecting the best player available on their board.
Despite their collection of young forwards, Lowe believes defensive prospects such as Oscar Klefbom, Martin Marincin, Martin Gernat and David Musil are developing properly and could be ready for NHL action in the near future. This will allow the team flexibility in their strategy for this year's draft, according to Lowe.
