The Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks needed overtime to determine a winner in Game 5 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series.

The teams were scoreless in the third period of Game 5, so it’s time for more.

Each team had a goal per period until the third, when they locked down defensively and produced only 11 total shots, and zero goals, between them.
In the first two periods, the Ducks and Wings traded a goal per period, Anaheim twice erasing one-goal Detroit leads and the teams combining for 51 shots.
Ryan Getzlaf's power play goal with 32 seconds left int he second period knotted it at 2-2. That came after the Ducks had killed a five-minute major penalty to Daniel Winnik that could have allowed the Red Wings to pull away. The penalty resulted from this hit on Daniel Cleary:
Instead of converting on that power play, however, Wings defenseman Brendan Smith took a penalty that killed the final minute of the power play and created the opportunity for Getzlaf's equalizer.
Next goal wins, and gives the winner a chance to clinch in Game 6 in Detroit.
