Boston scored first but struggled to keep up with the Penguins.

It took all of 45 seconds for the Penguins to launch the first of many tactical strikes against Brad Marchand.
A hit on Marchand from Chris Kunitz then led to a 3-on-1 chance for Boston, but they couldn't convert.
Just when you thought the Penguins were done with their goaltending problems, Tomas Vokoun let this shot from David Krejci slip past him midway through the period.
Jaromir Jagr got another couple of good chances, but Vokoun stood him up on both. Jagr wasn't happy.
Despite Boston’s close calls, the Penguins outplayed and outchanced them in the first. Both squads squandered power play opportunities, but Boston looked especially sluggish trying to keep up with the speedy Pens. Pittsburgh nearly equalized in the dying seconds of the period, but the puck went wide.
